Prof. Tony Cai has served as Weidai’s independent director since the IPO. Professor Cai is a Vice Dean and a Dorothy Silberberg Professor of Statistics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he focuses his research on big data analytics, including high-dimensional data analysis, statistical machine learning, large-scale multiple testing, functional data analysis, statistical decision theory, as well as applications to genomics, and financial engineering. Professor Cai is a member of the editorial board of the journal of Annals of Statistics and has served on the editorial boards of many other academic journals. He received the COPSS Presidents’ Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies in 2008 and was elected to the presidency of International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA) in 2017. Professor Cai has received numerous research grants, including consecutive research grants from National Science Foundation (NSF) since 2000, multi-year research grants from National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2012 and 2017 and a grant from Wharton School Global Initiatives in 2016. Professor Cai received his bachelor’s degree in science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1989 and his Ph.D. degree in statistics from Cornell University in 1996.
